St reading Term 2 week 2: Sorry guys, these lots are not for you

Q1) What were some of the reasons cited in the article why there was a need to have parking lots for women only in these buildings?

The first reason would be the parking lots are located near the entrance of the building.Hence it would be more convenient as they would not need to travel such a long distance. It would be even more tiring if they wore heels. They only have to walk up the ramp to reach the entrance to the lobby.Another reason is that women feel safer parking nearer to the entrance.

Q2) In your opinion, do you think it is necessary to allocate parking lots for women only? Why?

a) I think it not necessary to allocate parking lots for women only as it would be unfair to other people. Why must they be given special rights just because they are women? Since most of the drivers in Singapore are men, what if during peak hours, when the other car lots are full and the reserved lots for women are empty, isnt that making it difficult for other people like men to find a lot to park their car? Also, there may be other people who may need these lots too, like the disabled, the families and elderly.

b)Which group of people do you then feel should be allocated such priority parking? Explain.

I think the group of people who should be allocated such priority parking would be pragnant ladies, families with small children/babies , handicapped people and those whose family has elderly people. For pregnant ladies, they would not need to tire themself by walking so far as they are carrying two lives.Since the priority parking lots are larger than the normal ones, for families with small children/ babies they would need a larger space to take their prams out.The handicapped people also need this lots as it would be difficult for them to push their wheelchair a long distance throughout the carparks to the lobbies and also they need a bigger space. This would surely take a long time and most importantly, they have to make sure if there is any vehicles coming in their way at the same time when they are pushing it.Accidents may happen.
Last but not least, thr elderly would take a long time to walk because of their weak legs dues to osteoporosis. They tend to walk slower than normal people do, and is inconvenient for them to travel so long wasting so much time.
